Federiko Fellini


Federiko Fellini - the Italian film director, whose creativity were defined by the person of the European cinema of second half of XX-th century.

Within four decades, since 1954 and to the death in 1993, Federiko Fellini was the recognised representative of the European cinema in the world film industry. It has won four "+ёърЁр" in a category "-ѕё°шщ foreign ¶шыіь" and in 1993 has been awarded the Special award of the American academy of motion picture arts for the contribution to art of the film.

Rimini, small resort small town at the Adriatic coast of Italy where in 1920 Federiko Fellini was born, became a scene of action of its several films. Fellini was the son of the direct-sales representative, and a life in Rimini, displayed subsequently in its early films, seemed it burdensome, especially long winter months. At the age of 12 years Federiko has run away from the house to join vagrant circus, but a month later two policemen have returned it home.

Young Fellini was the idler and did not show draught for one of school subjects. After school, having replaced a number of temporary jobs, it has left 1938 to Florence where wrote stories and drew caricatures for satirical magazine. Then Fellini has moved to Rome where has made friends with the actor of a variety show Aldo Fabritsi (played later a role of the priest in a film of Rossellini "ршь - opened уюЁюф"). Fellini has written for it a series of comic monologues, and also sketches for radio.


Talent of the artist

Gift of the illustrator never left Fellini and though later it worked with professional designers and script writers, its scenarios are spotted by sketches of suits and the scenery made it with own hand.

The Case has reduced Fellini with Roberto Rossellini, other promising young director. Rosselini has invited him to cooperation over a script writing on which subsequently has been put "ршь - opened уюЁюф". The film which has been let out in 1945, describes a life in Rome at nazi occupation during the Second World War.


to Work "ёюыю"

In 1952 Fellini shoots the first independent film - "…хы№щ °хщ§". The main theme - a small town life, and a picture with soft irony shows influence of journal photoromanticism on naive imaginations of its inhabitants. Already in "…хыюь °хщ§х" the characteristic and invariable lines which have become by the logo of films of Fellini - bright were showed, but kind sketches of a provincial life, satire on a reality, is masterful bound with imagination elements.

The Following film, "¦рьхэіъшэ№ ё№эъш" removed in 1953, shows that by Fellini's this moment has reached an art maturity. This film has won a number of the international awards, including a prize of the Venetian film festival. The plot is obviously based on Fellini's life experience and tells story of the young and idle dreamers living in small seaside small town.

Its following film "La strada" ("-юЁюур"), issued in 1954, is one of the best and most touching products of the director. "-юЁюур" has brought its Fellini of the first "+ёърЁр". In a film the history of two exhibition circus actors, the athlete and the rope-walker, and also Dzhelsominy, the mentally retarded poor girl bought by the athlete for a plate of a spaghetti is told. Dzhelsomina acts in their number, and its hat-kettle, the painted person and an exulting mad sight create an indelible image.

Its sincerity and innocence eventually soften rough heart of the athlete, but an enlightenment comes too late. The film comes to an end with a scene of hopeless loneliness on the bank of the cold night sea. Less successful film, "¦ю°хээшёхё=тю" (1955), telling about gang of the pity growing old swindlers deceiving poor men, has opened two aspects of creativity of Fellini - venomous supervision over human behaviour and search of the souls exhausted with loneliness, in a combination to aspiration in all to find a basic essence. These elements are especially accurately looked through in "-юёр§ -рсшЁшш" (1957), created, certainly, for Juliette Maziny.

In 1959 there was a following film, "Рырфър  цшчэі" - the story about the young man from a province which realises all perversity and emptiness of a life in a city, but cannot oppose to temptation. All over the world the film has been met as bitter and caustic satire on reeled European values; it also became turning point in Fellini's creativity. As the director later will tell: "Рхщёрё films passed a narration phase in prose and come nearer to poetry. I try to release myself from certain restrictions, that is stories with the beginning, development and the ending. It the poem with an own rhythm and ЁрчьхЁюь" should be faster;. Really, one of its following films, "Рр=шЁшъюэ Ихыышэш" (1969), breaks on a semiphrase.

However Fellini's who have departed from "яютхё=тютрэш  in яЁючх" first film; was "-юёхьі with яюыютшэющ" (1963), named so because by then Fellini itself has removed seven films and has taken part in creation of three more. It is history of the succeeding film director (it Marcello Mastrojanni plays) at which ideas have run low and which is tormented constantly with the producer. Memoirs and passion, the images personifying aspiration to innocence and something new, incorporate in the story about a love life of the director to easy humour and courageous installation.


the Reality or not so?

Fellini's later films from this number, such as "-цѕыіх==р and фѕ§ш" (1965), were, perhaps, less successful - except for shining "+ьрЁъюЁфр" (1974) in which the director with love and warm humour comes back again to the adolescence in Rimini and a youth in Rome. By Fellini's this time aspires to do the films opening artificiality of cinema, for example, "Ђ the ship яы№тх=" (1983) in which waves represent in pavilion of studio by means of a huge panel. In a picture "-цшэфцхЁ and ИЁхф" (1985) master with nostalgic tenderness recollects the variety show world, and its latest work "+юыюё ыѕэ№" (1990), with Roberto Benini in a role already less tired out Dzhelsominy, was deeply experienced result of all made, attempt to connect the past with the present, a provincial life with an inner world for the sake of a consolation which gives art.

In 1992 Fellini has been awarded by the Special award of the American Film academy for the contribution to motion picture arts. Unfortunately, has not passed also year after award delivery as it and his wife Juliette have died.
